There are many reasons why people sweat too much. There are many components of sweat problems. But sweat in itself is not a problem. It is when it becomes so prolific that you then have to look at the problem. Sweat can be caused by sitting in the sun and by having a good workout at your local gym. But you can also sweat through the pressure and stress of work.

If you have deadlines to complete and presentations to make then you can end up sweating more than you want. There is a point however when some people find that sweating is a huge part of their life and they can hardly do anything without worrying about if they are going to sweat.

The level of these sweat problems can vary from an occasional annoyance in certain conditions. For others however it can really become the dominating factor in their lives. Sweat does not have an odour of its own but when it comes into contact with bacteria on your skin then the bacteria will start to smell. This is why the common misconception is that sweat is smelly.

Sweat will also cause stains or clothing and bedding. For some people just walking across a room to meet someone will cause them to sweat too much. At this level you need to find some help for the problem.

What Type Of Sweat Problem Do You Have

Before you can decide how to treat excess sweat you need to diagnose what type of sweating problem you have. Here are some of the main ones.

Sweaty Hands

Night Sweating

Feet Sweating

Under Arm Sweating

Facial Sweating

Teenage Sweating

Upper Body Sweating

And Here are some of the possible causes of sweat.

Drinking Too Much Alcohol

Eating Hot and Spicy Food

Anxiety

Stress

Being in a hot place

Over Exercising.

Illness

As you can see there are lots of different possible scenarios that can contribute to your sweat issues. There is no “one size fits all” in terms of cause and effect. This also means that there is no one solution to your sweating problem..

Treating Your Sweat Problem

There are the obvious answers such as regular washing and using deodorant. I find that what I wear makes a difference. Natural fabrics that breathe help. I also try to live life in such a way that I do not put myself under pressure or stress. Easier said than done. You doctor may be able to help but that is quite rare. The medical professionals often do not see sweat as a major issue. The best solution I have found is a book called Stop Sweating and Start Living. This shows you how to improve your life and deal with the excess sweating.

The first time I discovered the effect of alcohol on my sweating I was really surprised. I always thought that drinking too much water would cause excess sweat. Well I have discovered that drinking alcohol does indeed make you sweat more. If you already have a sweat problem then the problem is magnified. I first discovered the problem last summer and wrote about alcohol and sweat to help people realise the connection.

At that time I had no idea that this was a common problem for heavy sweating people. Having done some research I know that most advisers say that you should not drink any alcohol with a sweat problem. The common opinion is that the worst culprit is white wine. There is little variance between a Chablis or a Muscudet Or a Sauvignon Blanc. All of them will get even people without a severe problem sweating after a glass or 2.

An even bigger problem can be found by people at night if they already suffer from night sweating. There is something in these white wines that must effect the sweat glands and wake them up.

I have found that you have to really abstain from wine to stop this contributory factor. Other alcoholic drinks such as beers and ciders are not so bad. The least problems are found with the spirits such as Brandy, Whiskey and Rum. You just need to be careful what mixers you use with them. The main problem is that wine goes so much better with a meal than other drinks.

If you want to stop sweating too much then stopping the drinking of white wine will certainly help. The guide I use to help me,The stop sweating and start living program, doesn’t talk too much about this aspect of sweating but in all other respects it is brilliant. I recommend it if you are in a daily struggle with too much sweat.

medical advice straightaway. If however your weakness and sweating is a regular occurence then read on. For many years I suffered from excess sweat and a lightheaded weak sensation. There was nothing that seemed to be causing it – or at least that’s what I thought. Eventually in my early 20’s I decided out of sheer frustration to find out what causes sweating. More recently I found a health program that has all but cured my excess sweating and weakness. Click HERE for more info.

I was surprised at the number of possible causes there are for sweating. In my case the problem was caused by a number of things from the list below. I will spare my blushes by sharing them if that’s OK with you. For you however the group of sweat causes could be different. I found out by experimentation how to reduce my sweating and lightheadedness over a period of about 10 years. I must also thank my wife for helping diagnose some of the triggers that I had not thought of.

The main areas to look at are as follows.

Stress, anxiety and nervousness are now recognised as causing weakness and sweating. I wonder if this is where the saying “weak at the kness” comes from.

What you eat and drink can have a huge impact on your health – including your sweat levels. Spicy foods and alcoholic drinks being the main culprits. Caffeine rich drink also have an adverse affect for some people.

Obesity and being overweight is known to cause sweating and weakness. This is one of the hardest ones to beat as it involves a complete life change to reduce weight.

Time of life changes. The main ones are puberty, onset of menstruation, and the menopause. For teenagers this can be a disaster as the extra sweat and feelings of weakness are awful for a person just finding their way in the world. (It’s hard to impress a girl when your armpits are like a shower of perspirtaion and excess sweat – believe me).

Serious illness is the final area of causes for weakness and sweat. This is often overlooked. The person who has a severe illness doesn’t realise that it might be directly connected to their health problems. I can’t comment on this last one as I have as yet not had a serious illness but I know from others that this can be a real problem.

In some of these causes there is not an easy cure. But for the vast majority you can help yourself by taking the obvious steps to keep your sweat levels down. For me I have to do a number of things that I learnt from the Stop Sweating and Start Living program. I still have the odd weird day when nothing seems to work but for most of the time my sweating and weakness are gone.

What you eat and drink can have a huge impact on how you control your sweating. As a general rule – the more spicy and “hot” food you eat the more you are going to sweat too much. This is stating the obvious to you if you are coping with excess sweat. But there are ways of cooking food that will reduce your sweat problem.

Click Photo To Learn More

Use Fresh Ingredients

I have found that by cooking and eating fresh ingredients rather than tinned or packaged foods that sweating can be reduced. I am not a scientist but simply know from experience that this is quite an important aspect of controlling excess sweat.

Spices & Herbs

Something worth doing is changing to fresh herbs and spices from the powdered version that you can buy in little tubs. This costs a little more but means you can enjoy the flavours of the herbs and spices without losing control of your sweat glands. An example of this would be a recipe that asks for basil and chilli in it. Instead of breaking open the tubs of processed spices and herbs you could put in a fresh chilli pepper and some fresh basil leaves taken from a plant in your kitchen.

Being sensible with strong flavours

The thing to do is reduce the levels of the flavourings by half and see how you go. For me this is often all I need to do to stop excess sweating. I can still enjoy a mild version of the flavours without creating personal sweating problems for myself. You will never be able to enjoy Chicken Vindaloo (No one really does anyway!) but by using fresh ingredients you will be able to eat much more interesting meals.

The first time I even noticed my excessive sweating was as a teenager. I had always sweated far too much as a child and young teenager but it didn’t really matter to me until as a teenager one of my peers told me I was sweating too much. Actually they didn’t phrase it quite as nicely as that and made sure that plenty of other people in my school year were aware of the problem.

Click Photo To Learn More

Being thick skinned it had no affect on me as a teenager because I was mainly into sports and adventure so sweating was a part of life for everyone – just a bit more sweat for me.

When sweating really became a problem

The stress of my first years in work were what really created a problem. I had no idea you had to actually work hard and the demands of my early employers came as a huge surprise. I now see this from the side of an employer and it is much more fun. I discovered that there ia a vicious circle between stress at work and excessive sweating that I was completely trapped in. I had to wear a suit to work which made the sweating even worse and sometimes I would go home mentally stressed and dripping like I had been swimming in my clothes.

How to stop sweating

To solve the sweat problem I started a regime of washing and wear natural fibres. I also started to become less stressed as I got better at my job so I slowly overcame the problem. It would still be there in the background to get me if there was a crisis at work. Now with the methods of the stop sweating and start living program it is easier to keep cool physically and mentally.

Have you ever noticed than when you eat a hot curry you perspire more than normal. Well this is no accident. The spices and herbs in these types of dishes make the food taste hot but also speed up your metabolism and sends your blood round your body much faster. This in turn makes you sweat too much.

Click Photo To Learn More

There is another group of foods that also make you sweat more and that is a group I call overprocessed foods. This is basically convenience foods and meals such as chocolate, ready meals, crisps, hamburgers and the like. There are chemicals in these overprocessed foods that make your body work much too hard to digest them. One of the side effects of this is excessive sweating.

Even plain white bread can be a problem for very sensitive people. To reduce the effect that your diet has on your sweating you should include more unprocessed simple foods such as fresh fruit, fresh vegetables, wholegrains, etc.

If you make a change in your diet away from the overprocessed foods you should see a big improvement in your excess sweat problem.

hyperhidrosis (posh word for sweating too much). It is not as serious as sweating caused by diabetes or other medical conditions but is bad enough.

For me I know that being anxious sets my heart and pulse going faster and this gets the blood pumping round my body even faster and then I start sweating too much. If I know ahead of time that I have a difficult meeting to deal with or that there will be an argument or disagreement then I know that I will start sweating before and during the meeting. This does not help me to get my side of the story told because I am also following the agenda my body is running which is excess sweat.

I have taught myself to plan for these occasions ahead of time and give myself time. I literally say to myself “What’s the worst that can happen” and I know that whatever that is will not happen.

Time pressure is the other area that can create anxiety and you can often do little about this. I tell myself that being there a bit late and cool is better than getting into a panic and arriving hot and bothered. I am an excellent time keeper because of years of practice on this
